Passenger, 55, killed after Jeep hits utility pole, overturns

A Bismarck woman was killed after the vehicle she was traveling in left a Hot Spring County road in misty, wet conditions Thursday, according to Arkansas State Police.

Venessa L. Odell, 55, was a passenger in a northbound 2015 Jeep Patriot about 5:18 p.m. Thursday when the vehicle veered off Arkansas 7 south of Bismarck, struck a utility pole and overturned, state police said in a preliminary report.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by Hot Spring County Coroner Ernest Cox about 6:30 p.m., authorities said.

The vehicle's driver, 50-year-old Chris T. Odell of Bismarck, was injured in the crash and transported to Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia, according to the report. His condition was unknown as of Friday afternoon.

The death was the eighth so far in 2016 reported by state police on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary figures.
