TEXARKANA — Funeral services are scheduled for former Arkansas House Speaker Hayes McClerkin of Texarkana.
Texarkana Funeral Home says a graveside service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Texarkana.
McClerkin died Wednesday at his home.
McClerkin served in the state House from 1961-1970 and was speaker in 1969-70. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1970, a race that was won by Dale Bumpers, who died on New Year's Day.
McClerkin is survived by his wife, Lillian Riggs McClerkin, three daughters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
