Fire at Jonesboro rice mill causes major damage

JONESBORO — The Jonesboro Fire Department says a fire at a rice mill has caused major damage.

KAIT-TV reports that crews responded to a fire at Riceland Foods around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Battalion Chief Tom Johnson says the fire started in one of the bran dryer buildings. He says that's not uncommon, but that this particular fire got a little out of hand.

Crews started in an offensive position, which includes crews fighting the fire inside the building. Later in the night, they had to move to the defensive to knock the fire down until they could make their way back into the building.

Nobody was injured. It's unclear how the fire will affect Riceland's production.
