Holt named state's top sportswriter

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter Bob Holt was named the 2015 sportswriter of the year for the state of Arkansas on Monday by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Holt is the primary beat reporter for the newspaper's coverage of University of Arkansas basketball, and also covers football, baseball and various other sports. He is in his 35th year covering the Razorbacks, having started for the Arkansas Democrat in 1981.

This is Holt's second sportswriter of the year award. He also won the award in 2000.

Wess Moore, an anchor for KLRT-TV in Little Rock, was named the state's sportscaster of the year for the first time.

Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci won the national sportswriter award for the second time. NBC Sports' Mike "Doc" Emrick was named national sportscaster of the year for the third time.
