2 pedestrians hit by vehicle, taken to hospital in Little Rock

Two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle on West Markham Street at 7:40 a.m. Monday after the driver said the sun obscured his vision, according to a police report.

Lori Judge, 54, and Tom Wilkins, 60, were transported to UAMS Medical Center for injuries. Judge complained of pain in her hips, and Wilkins complained of pain in his left ankle, according to the report.

The report stated that the driver, Vernon Reed, was pulling out to merge with traffic heading east on Markham when he hit Judge and Wilkins, who had just exited a bus and checked for traffic before crossing the street.

Reed was given a citation for failure to yield to pedestrians, according to the report.
