Ladies of great expectations

Alpha Phi Alpha presents 34 bright, dedicated teens

Thirty-four young women made their social debut on Dec. 26 at the 65th annual Debutante Scholarship Ball at Embassy Suites.

The formal event, held in the Grand Ballroom, was hosted by the Central Arkansas Sphinx Foundation and the Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. The young women have provided community service and demonstrated academic excellence. Reggie Jackson, chapter president, noted that they are future researchers, teachers, doctors and lawyers.

"We are so honored to let them shine before you tonight."

After they were announced to guests, the debutantes waltzed with their presenters and then their escorts. After dinner, ball chairman Ken Martin made the scholarship presentations and Miss Pi Lambda 2016, Latreecia Evans, was crowned. Runners-up were Kennedy Leverett and Kennede McElroy-Charles. Miss Congeniality was Kara Kellybrew.
