Kassie Jackson, 27, of Little Rock was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree battery after police found Charles Blair Jr., 28, on the ground, covered in blood and gasping for air, at 8510 Scott Hamilton Drive near Baseline Missionary Baptist church.

Blair was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock and his condition initially was listed as critical. His death Friday was the city's second homicide of 2016.

Jackson, who was released on bond Wednesday, surrendered to police Saturday, police spokesman officer Richard Hilgeman said. Police will dismiss the battery charge Monday and charge her with first-degree murder, he said.

A witness told police that Blair had been drunk and had swung a beer bottle in Jackson's face, according to a police report from Tuesday.

Jackson told police that Blair arrived at the home after work, and appeared to be drunk and was blowing a car horn, the report said. She said she told him he was disrespectful, and they began arguing.

Jackson told police that during the altercation, Blair "said something smart," so she struck him with her 2007 Jeep Patriot, according to the report.

She got out of the car, and he reached for her, the report said. Then a knife fell out of her bra, and she grabbed it and stabbed him, according to the report.

Police were called just before 8 p.m.

When officers found Blair, Jackson was sitting nearby, smoking a cigarette and holding a knife in her right hand, according to the report.

Jackson pleaded innocent to the battery charge Wednesday morning in Little Rock District Court and was released on bond.

She was on the Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Saturday evening with no bail amount listed.
