LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Ethics Commission has convened privately to decide whether there is probable cause in a complaint filed against Arkansas Treasurer Dennis Milligan.
Little Rock attorney and liberal blogger Matt Campbell filed the complaint against the Republican treasurer last year. The complaint includes allegations that Milligan misused public resources while in his previous office as Saline County circuit clerk and that he hired the spouses of two state legislators without proper approval.
Campbell was not present for the meeting Tuesday because of a court hearing in northwest Arkansas.
Changes to the state's ethics law passed in 2014 give officials an opportunity to amend their campaign finance report before the commission considers a complaint. The commission will determine whether the amended reports submitted by Milligan correct "unintentional" violations.
