The Arkansas man who broke the world record for the most miles ridden by bicycle in a year will be celebrated Sunday in a ceremony organized by the city of Little Rock, a city spokesman said Friday.

Averaging more than 200 miles a day, 52-year-old Kurt Searvogel broke the record Jan. 9 after surpassing 76,076 miles, spokesman Jennifer Godwin said.

His miles were confirmed by the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association and then accepted into the Guinness World Records. The previous record was set in 1939.

A reception honoring Searvogel will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday and will include a victory-lap bike ride along the Little Rock side of the Arkansas River Trail. The ride is open to guests and will maintain a leisurely pace, according to a news release from the city.

After the ride, guests can attend a barbecue and social hour at Murray Park, 5900 Rebsamen Park Road, to celebrate Searvogel's accomplishment.
