School bus transporting students crashes near Sheridan

A Sheridan School District bus carrying approximately 30 students collided with a dump truck at the intersection of U.S. 167 and Arkansas 35 at 7:30 a.m. Friday, a spokesman for the district said.

No one was injured, and students were transported to the school on another bus, according to a news release from the district. The driver was uninjured but taken to a medical clinic for evaluation in accordance with school procedures.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, district spokesman Lauren Goins said.

Campus administrators, counselors, nurses and mental health professionals will be available to meet with students later in the day, she said.

"We are deeply grateful that none of our students were injured," Superintendent Jerrod Williams said. "I would like to thank all the emergency responders and our district staff for immediately responding to this accident, taking care of our students and making our students their No. 1 priority."

The accident slowed traffic, but the intersection was cleared by 9:40 a.m., Arkansas State Police said.
