Cash visit to benefit dad's site

CASHING IN: Roseanne Cash, daughter of the late Johnny Cash, will visit the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock for a benefit March 3. The 6:30 p.m. event with the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter will include a reception and photo opportunity followed by her reflections on her involvement with the restoration of her father's home and the music she created for her 2014 album, The River and the Thread, which was inspired by her reconnection with the South.

Money raised will benefit the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess, an Arkansas State University Heritage Site that has been restored and open to the public since August 2014. The next phase is re-creating the Cash family's farmstead structures -- the barn, smokehouse, chicken coop and outhouse. For more info or to purchase the $150 tickets or sponsorships, email pmiles@astate.edu or call (870) 972-2803.

EYE ON THE PRIZE: Chris Cranford, an award-winning cinematographer and film editor at Cranford Co. ad and public relations agency in Little Rock, enjoys experimenting with still photography as a hobby and likes shooting with plastic and pinhole lens cameras. In 2013, he won first place in an international competition in New York City sponsored by Soho Photo Gallery. That winning photo also was featured in a juried competition in Portland, Ore.

This year, he's already been notified by the New York gallery that two of his photos --Place de la Republique and Paris Arkansas -- will be exhibited in this year's Soho Gallery Krappy Kamera show.

Shortly afterward, Rayko Gallery in San Francisco informed him that prints of the same two photos were chosen for their ninth annual Juried Plastic Camera Show. That places his art on exhibit, literally, from coast to coast.

DOWN FROM THE TOWER: For those who missed this, billionaire business magnate, real estate developer, reality TV star and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump plans a rally in Little Rock at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The locale? Barton Coliseum. Really? His visit takes place less than a week before the New Hampshire primary. Trump visited once before, in July, headlining a fundraiser for the state GOP in Hot Springs. Why here? Why now? Some speculate that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee -- also a presidential candidate -- will endorse Trump, who has gained the support of Sarah Palin, former Alaskan governor and 2008 vice presidential hopeful.

TRAVELING THE STATE: Look for Arkansas, among other locales, to be featured in a new PBS series, Travels with Darley, from the producers of the Emmy-winning show Equitrekking. The show, featuring host Darley Newman, launches on AETN on Tuesday. Arkansas is featured in the fifth episode of the series' eight half-hour shows. Newman checked out the farmers market and the Esse Purse Museum in Little Rock, Lake Ouachita State Park, the Ohio Club in Hot Springs and The Hive at 21c Hotel in Bentonville.
