Little Rock's Fox affiliate has hired a new sports reporter and weekend anchor, filling a position that opened last week.

Ben Creighton will leave the KEZI 9 News, an ABC affiliate, in Eugene, Ore., where he is a sports anchor and reporter, KLRT-TV said in a release. He will take over the position that belonged to Chase Shannon, who left Fox 16 last week for a job in Wichita, Kan.

Creighton, a graduate of Washington State University, will cover college and high school sports across Arkansas, the Little Rock station said. In Eugene, he covers the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers.

“I've learned that college athletes are more than just, well, athletes,” Creighton said in the release. “Each one of them has a life story or something unique about them that they want to share. I pride myself on creating big feature and human-interest stories.”

The station said he will work also on its Fearless Friday and high school state championship game broadcasts. He will join Fox 16 in early August.

“We were immediately impressed with Ben’s ability to communicate and deliver unique and memorable stories about the student athletes he covered,” Fox 16 News Director Austin Kellerman said in the release.
