Little Rock police resolve grievance filed over holiday weekend scheduling

The Little Rock Fraternal Order of Police says officers originally scheduled to be off during the Fourth of July weekend will remain off after an agreement was reached Friday over "last-minute rescheduling."

Tommy Hudson, president of the fraternal order, said the Little Rock Police Department was cooperative with a grievance he filed Thursday regarding what he called the "poor planning" of holiday shifts.

"Scheduling is not rocket science," a Facebook post from Hudson read in part. "I realize those of you assigned are making sacrifices for yourselves and your families by missing family activities."

Hudson, who was unsure of how many officers were initially impacted, said he stressed to chiefs the need for advanced notice of such changes to ensure that the police force can plan ahead for time off.

A copy of the grievance letter had not been made available as of Friday afternoon.

Little Rock police spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said more information would be made available later in the day regarding possible solutions.
