CONWAY -- In the months before he was murdered, Lawrence Ray Noblitt told his wife and others that he knew of corruption in the Conway Police Department, they say. "I feel he was set up," said Jackie Noblitt, his widow. "I don't know that, but I really feel that." More than two years after Conway police officer Noblitt was shot to death, many unanswered questions remain in the minds of his survivors, his co-workers and his community. Kenneth Ray Clements, who is charged with murder in Noblitt's shooting, is scheduled to be retried Sept. 23.

• The prospect of daily four-hour bus rides for Paron High School students helped persuade a Pulaski County Circuit Court judge to order that the school stay open for another academic year. "Students who spend up to four hours a day on a bus will have significantly less time to spend with their families, to do their homework, to hold after-school jobs and to assist with the care of their siblings," Judge Jay Moody wrote in the eight-page order. "There was no evidence that the time spent on the bus would be beneficial to the students." Moody also ordered the state Board of Education to reconsider the decision to close the school in rural Saline County, finding that the way board members reached that conclusion violated Arkansas Code 25-15-201, which outlines the procedures state agencies must follow for rule-making and adjudication hearings.
