Rabid skunk found outside Hot Springs

City officials in Hot Springs are alerting residents that a rabid skunk was found recently several miles outside the city.

The city said in a statement that the skunk picked up last week later tested positive for rabies. It was found in the 100 block of Trap Mountain Road, which is southwest of Hot Springs.

"Pet owners are reminded to vaccinate all dogs and cats at least four months old against rabies," the city said in a statement, adding any "unusual daytime activity by nocturnal creatures" like skunks and bats should be reported to animal services.
