A former Arkansas prison chaplain whose case was set for August pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of sexual assault involving three female inmates.

Kenneth Dewitt, 67, of Patterson originally faced 50 counts of third-degree sexual assault for acts reported between January 2013 and September 2014, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

He appeared Tuesday morning before Judge Harold Erwin of Newport in Jackson County Circuit Court.

As part of the plea agreement, Dewitt will be sentenced in August to 10 years on each of the counts. The terms will run concurrently, with five years of each suspended, according to Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce.

Dewitt resigned in September 2014 from his job at the McPherson Unit in Jackson County after confessing to an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate.
