UA student dies after trying to untangle anchor lines in Arkansas lake

A University of Arkansas student died Monday after diving into Beaver Lake to untangle anchor lines, according to the Carroll County sheriff's office.

Hayden Greenway, 21, of Rogers was in a boat with friends between Starkey Marina and the Beaver Lake dam.

The boat's anchor line became entangled with the one from another boat. Two men dove into the water to untangle the lines, but only one of them resurfaced, said Lt. Jerry Reddick with the sheriff's office.

Greenway's body was recovered about four hours later in 40 feet of water, Reddick said.

The University of Arkansas student directory lists Greenway as a sophomore studying biology. Steve Voorhies, a spokesman for the university, confirmed that Greenway was a student.

His body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy.

Greenway was a 2013 graduate of Rogers Heritage High School, said Ashley Siwiec, a spokesman for the Rogers School District.
