— Arkansas has added a catcher to its 2017 baseball recruiting class.

Casey Opitz (5-foot-11, 170 lbs.) verbally committed to the Razorbacks on Tuesday. Opitz, a switch-hitter who throws right-handed, will be a senior next season at Heritage High School in Centennial, Colo.

As a junior, Opitz batted .424 with 1 home run and 11 RBI, and recorded 18 walks. Defensively, he threw out eight base runners in 11 stolen base attempts and had a .994 fielding percentage.

Opitz is playing this summer with the Midland Redskins, a prestigious travel team based in Ohio. Perfect Game USA gives him a 9.5 ranking out of 10.

Verbal commitments are non-binding. Opitz's signing period begins in November.
