Second teen pleads guilty in killings of Conway couple

CONWAY — A second teenager has pleaded guilty in the shooting deaths last summer of a Conway couple.

Connor Atchley, 17, of Greenbrier on Wednesday entered the negotiated plea to two counts each of first-degree murder and theft by receiving in Faulkner County Circuit Court.

Judge Troy Braswell sentenced Atchley to 25 years in prison and to a 12-year suspended imposition term.

In May, Atchley's co-defendant, 15-year-old Justin Staton, pleaded guilty to two counts of capital murder and other offenses and got 35 years in prison. The teenagers were sentenced in the July 21, 2015, slayings of Robert and Patricia Cogdell, both 66. The Cogdells were Staton's legal guardians.

Atchley apologized in court to the victims' family. Part of his plea agreement requires that he testify, if needed, in any trials related to the case.

Hunter Drexler, 18, of Clinton awaits trial on capital murder and other charges. Anastasia Roberts, 18, of Conway awaits trial on first-degree murder and felony theft by receiving charges.
