— Jarrion Lawson has been named the SEC's male athlete of the year for all sports.

Lawson won four individual national championships this year. He won the long jump at the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets, and was the champion in the 100 and 200 meters outdoors.

He was also on the Razorbacks' third-place 400 meter relay team outdoors. His 31.5 points broke a modern-day record at an NCAA meet and were the most since Jesse Owens scored 40 points 80 years earlier.

It is the second consecutive year Arkansas has had an athlete win the award for male athlete of the year. Former Razorbacks baseball player Andrew Benintendi won the award in 2015.

Florida gymnast Bridget Sloan was the recipient of the SEC's female athlete of the year award.

The SEC award may be the first of many for Lawson this year. He is a finalist for college track's top individual award, The Bowerman, and a finalist for an ESPY award as the best male college athlete.
