Pipe mill sheds 100 jobs at Arkansas plant

Tenaris has laid off about 100 employees at its welded pipe mill in Blytheville because of the "continued downturn in the oil and gas sector."

The global manufacturer and supplier of steel pipe products announced the staff reduction in a news release Thursday. Tenaris, which is based in Luxembourg and has its North American headquarters in Houston, said it will continue to "monitor the market conditions, and align its workforce and production levels as needed."

It's the second significant round of layoffs at the company's Blytheville mill this year. Tenaris also announced in January that it had laid off about 100 employees, and the reduction was attributed to falling oil prices and the continued reduction of drilling activity.

When contacted Thursday, a Blytheville employee referred questions to the corporate office. A message left with the corporate office wasn't returned as of late Thursday afternoon.
