Where I live: a quiet cove on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs

My favorite space is: my back porch.

Why? I commute to Little Rock every day because my husband, Will, convinced me it would be worth it to move to Hot Springs for his job if we could live on the lake. It absolutely is. Every day feels like a vacation. On the weekends, the back porch is the launching spot for long boat rides with our families and lazy afternoons fishing on the dock. It’s where we play with our dogs, Mac and Ernest, where I try to force my green thumb with a tiny herb garden, where we grill on Sunday nights while sharing a bottle of wine — sharing with my husband, not the dogs. In the early mornings and after work, the porch is my meditation spot. The lake has an inexplicable ability to transport me to a place of absolute zen. It’s hard to be stressed when you’re living in a Whitman poem.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: We would love to have a bigger yard. Our pups — despite constantly chasing ducks and barking at dogs across the cove — aren’t huge fans of being in the water. Having more green space for them to run would be great, but they seem content with long walks.
