Courvoisier Trotter, 22, surrendered to deputies in Hempstead County, Wilson said.

At 4:30 p.m. June 23, police found Tommy Hamilton Jr. lying on a lawn in the 600 block of North Walker Street with a gunshot wound in his chest. Hamilton died at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope.

Detectives began searching for Trotter, who was reported to have left the scene driving a black, four-door Mazda MZ6, according to Assistant Police Chief Kim Tomlin.

"We believe we have a motive, but we can't confirm it. They were having a verbal altercation in the front yard," Tomlin said two days after the shooting.

Tomlin said last week that Hamilton and Trotter were arguing and Hamilton was shot.
