FIREWORKS FRENZY

Easter Seals fundraiser puts 300 on prime perch for 4th

About 300 young professionals and other Easter Seals supporters gathered on the Grand Ballroom Terrace of the Little Rock Marriott on July 4 to take in the city's largest fireworks display of the holiday weekend. The family-friendly event began before dusk and wasn't over until the last spark fell from the sky.

Guests paid $25 -- $10 for children 12 and under -- for the view, snacks and music by a disc jockey from Central Arkansas Entertainment. A cash bar was also available.

Perhaps the most important feature was seating for the heat-weary crowd.

The affair, dubbed Fireworks Frenzy, was aimed at raising money for Easter Seals and driving awareness for the organization's young professionals group, called Guardians. Young professionals are considered those 40 and under. The event raised more than $12,300 for the organization's programs and services for children and adults with disabilities.

Kathryn Norton, development officer for Easter Seals Arkansas, said the river viewing opportunity was made available to Guardians, friends, family and sponsors at the Marriott terrace for the first time last year and that the organization plans to continue its arrangement with the hotel into the future.
