Oh say can you see the dugout steps

A bizarre dugout injury has landed Chicago White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon on the 15-day disabled list.

Making his way onto the field for the national anthem before Friday night's game against Atlanta, Rodon stumbled on the dugout steps and sprained his left wrist while bracing his fall.

"I was a little embarrassed. I was like, 'I hope no one saw that,' " Rodon said Saturday. "I got out there and was like just laughing when the anthem was going on. I came back in and sat down and I was like, 'Uh, all right, this kind of hurts a little bit.' "

Added White Sox Manager Robin Ventura: "He's not too graceful."

The DL stint is retroactive to Wednesday. Rodon was tagged for 6 runs and a season high-tying 12 hits over 5 innings in a 9-0 loss to the New York Yankees a day earlier.

It's been a rough week.

"I got my butt whipped by the Yankees and then I slipped coming out of the dugout," Rodon said.

An X-ray ruled out a fracture, but Rodon said he'll have to wear a wrist brace for at least a week. Rodon said he hopes to avoid a minor-league rehab stint, but Ventura suggested one is likely.

"He would have to do something as far as throwing pitches," he said. "You are not going to come in after two weeks. I don't know when he's going to start back up actually throwing."

Rodon, 23, is 2-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 16 starts. He is winless in his past seven starts.

Rodon said he's learned a valuable lesson for his national anthem routine.

"I'm going to go a little slower next time," he said.

Add injury

A man was carted off Wrigley Field and hospitalized after he slipped and fell while attempting to jump from the bleachers before a game between the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.

The Cubs, who didn't identify the man, said in a statement the fan "was injured after attempting to jump onto the field."

The man, dressed in shorts and sneakers, was face down in front of the ivy in right-center field when officials started running from the dugouts to assist him. They immediately checked his pulse while a medic ran in from right field.

There was a visible dip in the yellow fencing at the top of the 11½-foot wall above where the man was treated. The Wrigley Field bleachers are known for their partylike atmosphere and sometimes rowdy behavior.

The fan was hurt just after 7 p.m., about the scheduled start time, but the tarp was on the field because of earlier heavy rain. The game did not start until 8:40 p.m.

Driving hazard

From Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times:

"Jacksonville running back Denard Robinson apparently fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a retention pond on Jacksonville's south side.

"Which, come to think of it, pretty much ended like a lot of Jaguars drives do."
