Severe thunderstorms predicted in parts of Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for northwest Arkansas as thunderstorms move across Oklahoma and into the Natural State.

The National Weather Service said the watch remains in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday for Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Franklin, Madison, Sebastian and Washington counties. Forecasters said parts of Arkansas north of Interstate 40 could see stormy weather with heavy rainfall throughout the day.

The weather service said some areas could see damaging wind gusts of 80 mph or stronger. Flash flooding could also occur because of the rainfall.

Forecasters said thunderstorm chances continue into Saturday, with hot and dry conditions expected next week.
