BREAKING ART

Reception opens show of journalists' artwork

"Stop the presses!" That's an old phrase used when breaking news is hot enough to interrupt the regular process of printing the newspaper to change an issue's content. It's also the name of a sporadically recurring gallery show featuring original artwork by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette employees.

After a hiatus of five or so years, "Stop the Presses!" is back. An opening reception for the exhibit took place July 8 at Cantrell Gallery in Little Rock. Artists and their families mingled with other guests and had snacks and wine while perusing the artwork, including Nikki Dawes' painting, 17, Kirk Montgomery's painting, Another Side, and other paintings, photographs, pottery and more by staff members including John Deering, Celia Storey, John Sykes Jr., Cary Jenkins, Ron Wolfe, Ben Krain and Philip Martin.

Organized by Democrat-Gazette Sunday Style editor Ellis Widner, the exhibit runs through Sept. 8.
