Arkansas man killed in head-on collision between car, pickup

One man died and another was injured in a head-on crash on Arkansas 35 in Cleveland County Monday, police said.

Arkansas State Police said the wreck occurred around 2:30 p.m. as Demarcus Cones, 24, of Fordyce was driving his Toyota Camry north through a curve. The Camry reportedly then crossed the centerline and hit a southbound Dodge Ram pickup, which was being driven by 37-year-old Rison resident Luther Drye.

Cones was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Drye was injured and taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

Conditions at the time of the wreck were said to be clear and dry.

Cones' death was the 283rd fatality on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
