3 arrested after explosive device containing TNT found in car in Arkansas

Two men and a woman have been arrested after the discovery of an explosive device in Cabot prompted the evacuation of area homes Tuesday evening, according to police.

In a news release Wednesday afternoon, the Cabot Police Department said the device, which contained active TNT, or trinitrotoluene, was concealed in a green “military style ammo can” inside a silver car. It was later dismantled by the Little Rock Fire Department Bomb Squad.

Authorities said they initially responded around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday to a call of a domestic disturbance between two men and a woman on Pheasant Run Drive.

At the scene, police said they stopped the car as its driver attempted to leave. A passenger, 33-year-old Marvin Davis, fled on foot behind houses and was later arrested, according to the news release.

During a search of the car, police said they found the explosive device and took precautionary measures, evacuating between 10 and 12 homes. Residents were allowed to return to their homes a short time later after the scene was considered safe, according to authorities.

Davis and Melvin Schmidt, 49, each face a charge of criminal possession of explosives. Schmidt also faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms after 2.3 grams of meth and a loaded .357 revolver were found in his bedroom, police said.

Another person at the scene, Jessica Thompson, 27, also faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The vehicle's driver, 39-year-old Dallas Davis, was taken into custody on an active warrant from another agency, police said. He was then released to that unidentified agency.
