Vollendorf moves into match play

Fisher Vollendorf, 17, of Fayetteville, advanced into match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur after finishing tied for 47th with a 5-over-par 149 at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., on Tuesday.

Vollendorf, who fired a first-round 76, came back with a 73 in the second round. He had a birdie on No. 7, a 420-yard par 4, and two bogeys.

Miles Smith, 17, of Little Rock missed the 13-man playoff for the final seven spots by one shot. After posting a first-round 79, Smith came back with a 73 to finish with an 8-over-par 152.

Smith’s round featured two birdies and three bogeys.

Travis Vick of Houston earned medalist honors with an 8-under-par 136, beating Eugene Hong of Sanford, Fla., by three strokes.

In the U.S. Junior Girls Amateur at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., Casey Ott, 16, of Conway, and Josie Roberson, 15, of Maumelle missed the cut.

Ott finished with an 18-over-par 164 to miss the cut by eight strokes. After shooting a 79 in the first round, she came back with an 85 in the second round that featured one birdie, eight bogeys, one double bogey and one triple bogey.

Roberson shot a second-round 94 to finish with a 34-overpar 180. Her second round featured 11 bogeys and five double bogeys.

Hye-Jin Choi of Korea earned medalist honors with a 5-under-par 141, beating Sadie Englemann of Austin, Texas, in a playoff.

Lightning delays ASGA Junior Match Play

A 90-minute lightning delay pushed some second-round play to today in the Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club in Little Rock.

All of the boys matches were completed. In the girls tournament, six of the eight second-round matches were completed. The only two ongoing are No. 3 seed Sydney Staton of Fort Smith against No. 14 seed Alexis Montgomery of Maumelle and No. 4 seed Taylor Loeb of Maumelle against No. 13 seed Audrey Pulliam of Little Rock.

In boys action, the No. 1 seed and defending champion Hyunjee Lee of North Little Rock won his first two matches, defeating Davidson Dunkum of Little Rock 5 and 3 and James Bull of Heber Springs 4 and 2. No. 2 seed Ryan Spurlock of Maumelle defeated Reagan Jones of Benton 4 and 3 and Thai Fitzpatrick of Benton 6 and 5.

Lee will meet Caleb Miller of Cabot at 8 a.m. today. Spurlock will meet Craig Benson of Jonesboro at 8:32 a.m. today.

In girls action, No. 1 seed and defending champion Elizabeth Moon of Forrest City received a first-round bye before beating Bailey Dunstan of Little Rock 5 and 3. She will meet Mackenzie Lee of North Little Rock in today’s quarterfinals at 9:04 a.m.

No. 2 seed Brooke Matthews of Rogers received a bye before beating No. 18 seed Kate Robertson of Rogers 3 and 1. She will face No. 7 seed Olivia Parker of Conway at 9:20 a.m. today in the quarterfinals.
