The Bats and the Bees

POWHATAN — The Bats and the Bees will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon at the Nature Center at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Bats and honeybees are an invaluable resource to Arkansans. Participants will discover the vast potential impacts of losing these animals on the ecosystem, economy and their everyday lives, as well as ways to aid in the bats’ and bees’ continued survival. Nature Center Exploration

POWHATAN — Nature Center Exploration will take place from 1-3 p.m. all three days at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Participants will have an opportunity to self-explore the Nature Center and learn about some of the unique wildlife in the area, including turtles, frogs, snakes and more. Creature Feature

POWHATAN — Creature Feature will be presented from 3-4 p.m. all three days at the Nature Center at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Participants will join the park interpreter to take an in-depth look at one of the resident park animals and learn about a unique animal using living animals, skins and furs, bones and skulls, and/or other mediums to better understand the creatures around us. The 3C’s and 3R’s: Arkansas’ Venomous Snakes

POWHATAN — The 3C’s and 3R’s: Arkansas’ Venomous Snakes will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon at the Nature Center at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Not every snake in Arkansas is potentially dangerous. In fact, only six are venomous. Participants will find out easy ways to remember the venomous snakes and ways to tell them and other snakes apart, and learn about some of the other snakes in Arkansas that are beneficial but are often harmed as a result of mistaken identity. Spring River Associational Singing

LYNN — The next Spring River Associational Singing will be at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 31 Lawrence Road 318. Everyone is invited to attend, especially the churches of the Spring River Association and special groups, singers and musicians. The primary book to be used is the Heavenly Highway Hymnal, 2nd Edition. The first edition, along with the American Baptist Association’s Hymnal, may also be used. Paper Conservation Workshop

POWHATAN — The Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives will offer a workshop titled Paper Conservation: Principles and Practices from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Male and Female Academy in Powhatan. The workshop will feature presentations by NEARA archival manager Lisa Perry and conservator Jane Thompson. There will be a hands-on workshop on paper conservation at the end of the day. Participants are asked to bring their own paper materials to work with. The workshop is free, but registration is required by Wednesday. Check-in will begin at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Kids Summer Art Workshops

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will offer Kids Summer Art Workshops on Monday through July 29 at the BAAC Gallery on Main. Kindergartners through second-graders will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and third- through sixth-graders will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. The cost is $50. Fulton County Fair Horse Show

SALEM — The Shaver Plumbing and Hardware Fulton County Fair Horse Show will take place at 6 p.m. in the Clayton-Plumlee-Walling Arena at the fairgrounds. The show will feature halter classes, showmanship at halter, western pleasure, lead-line class for youth ages 5 and younger, trail classes, barrel racing and pole bending. Fulton County Fair Rodeo

SALEM — Hall Rodeo LLC will produce two nights of rodeo action at the Fulton County Fair at 8 p.m. both days. Cline Hall is the Arkansas Cowboys Association Top Rodeo Producer and will have a fast-paced show for rodeo fans. There will be a calf scramble and muttin busting for kids. Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches Barn-Raising Campaign

BATESVILLE — One aspect that makes the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches’ program unique in Arkansas is the fact that it is a real working ranch. The boys and girls who call the ranches’ campus in Batesville “home” are helping raise a registered Hereford beef herd. The ranches’ cattle program has an urgent need of a new hay barn. Discount Carnival Armband Tickets

SALEM — The Fulton County Fair will have a new carnival this year, Johnson Brothers Amusements of El Dorado. Advance armband tickets for the carnival rides, at $15 each, are on sale through noon Wednesday and can be used at the fair from 6-10 p.m. July 28, 29 and 30. Tickets can be purchased at Shaver Plumbing and Hardware; FNBC Community Bank in Salem and Mammoth Spring; the Bank of Salem in Salem, Mammoth Spring and Viola; the North Arkansas Electric Cooperative; Hill’s Auto Sales; and the Fulton County Fair Office at the fairgrounds. Magnificat Luncheon

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Tickets are available for the next Magnificat Luncheon, sponsored by the Mary Ark of the Covenant Chapter of Magnificat International, set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6 in the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Hall. Ozarka College-Ash Flat EMT Program

ASH FLAT — Ozarka College in Ash Flat will begin offering courses for its Emergency Medical Technician Program in the fall semester. Classes will meet from 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Aug. 16. Additional clinical hours will be required. Cabot Lions Club Meetings

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Kingpin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Club members provide children with eyeglasses, offer food for seniors and are among the first to respond when disaster strikes. All are invited to attend the meetings.

A Day of Caring

SEARCY — Unity Health will offer the 20th annual A Day of Caring from 9 a.m. to noon July 30 in a new location. Because of building construction at Harding University, the day of medical mission will be held at Harding Academy High School, 1529 E.
