Arkansas authorities investigating after woman's body found in woods

Authorities are investigating after a woman's body was discovered Thursday evening in a wooded area of Clark County, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Sheriff Jason Watson said his office was notified around 5:30 p.m. The Clark County sheriff’s office and Arkansas State Police are investigating.

Investigators have yet to identify the woman and her body is being transported to the state Crime Laboratory, the release said. She is described as a black woman who was 20 to 30 years.

The release didn't indicate the location where the body was found. It was described as a "remote wooded area."

Diana Barnes, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said more details would be released “when available and appropriate.”

Anyone with any information that could aid the investigation are asked to call the sheriff’s office at (870) 246-2222.
