Larry "Poo" Betz

Where I live: Millwood neighborhood in Conway

Occupation: Chief development officer at Youth Home Inc. and founder of the Little Rock Kickball Association

My favorite space is: My music/sunroom

Why? I wanted the opposite of a "man cave," but I still wanted a masculine space that reflected my tastes and centered on showcasing a vintage console stereo, my vinyl record collection and an original work of art from Little Rock artist John Kushmaul. The room started with a chocolate shag carpet and then two different leather couches that had a midcentury feel to them that I loved. I then painted one wall a rich purple and covered that wall with various round mirrors and art. The painting by Kushmaul actually came last but perfectly pulls together the colors of the room. Several screen prints and other pieces of art are also found in this space.

I have a ratty armchair that is seemingly out of place, but it is exactly where I love to sit, sip, read and relax with good music, a good book and a refreshing drink. This room just feels comfortable and cool to me even during the warmest summer days, offers an amazing vantage point for storms and is where my kids find me when they need me.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: I wish I had the space and know-how to devise better shelving for my record collection. I would love something that fits the room and is practical.
