Searchers found a body in the Arkansas River on Sunday morning, the day after a swimmer went missing in the same area.

Lt. Ted Haase, a spokesman for the Pulaski County sheriff’s office, said authorities had recovered a body on the North Little Rock side of the river near the Fraternal Order of Police lodge.

Investigators haven’t confirmed the body's identity, but Haase said they believe it’s 19-year-old Khalil Smith after finding the body in the same area where Smith went missing.

Smith went missing in the river Saturday, west of Riverview Park in North Little Rock, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported. Friends gathered on the bank of the river as investigators searched Saturday afternoon and evening.

Haase said searchers found the body sometime around 11 a.m. The sheriff’s office will continue to lead the investigation and determine if the body is Smith’s.
