If Cade Campbell is involved with something, he is going to play a major role.
"I like to lead," Campbell said. "I don't know if that's always a good thing or not, but I don't know any other way to be a part of something."
Campbell was McCrory's starting quarterback in football and its ace pitcher in baseball. He was also the president of the student council and of the school's Future Business Leaders of America. Obviously, the 6-0, 175-pounder was a take-charge type of guy.
Campbell will attend Harding University this fall where he plans to major in business, "although, that may change" he said. He will play baseball for the Bisons. His brother Collin was a Harding pitcher for three years before an injury cut short his career a year ago.
"There's a little bit of tradition there for me," Cade said. "It's a good school, a christian school and it's close to home. It's the best place for me."
Campbell said he was proud of the fact he was able to balance athletics and academics during his time in high school.
"I'm proud we won a state title in football," Campbell said. "We've had some great teams here, but to finally bring home a state title was big. But I cared about my grades too. I wanted to make all A's because I knew that sports was not going to make me a paycheck."
Campbell's business plans may involve selling cars. He said his grandfather -- Tony Bull -- has been involved in that business for a long time.
"I haven't sold any cars yet," Campbell said. "I'm low on the totem pole when it comes to that. But maybe some day I will."
