Nature Center Exploration

POWHATAN — Nature Center Exploration will take place from 1-3 p.m. at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Participants will have an opportunity to self-explore the Nature Center and learn about some of the unique wildlife in the area, including turtles, frogs, snakes and more. Creature Feature

POWHATAN — Creature Feature will be presented from 3-4 p.m. at the Nature Center at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Participants will join the park interpreter to take an in-depth look at one of the resident park animals and learn about a unique animal using living animals, skins and furs, bones and skulls, and/or other mediums to better understand the creatures around us. What’s All the Buzz About?

POWHATAN — What’s All the Buzz About? will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon at the Nature Center at Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Insects have their own unique methods for sensing the world around them. Participants will learn about how those methods are both similar and different from our own senses, and find out how insects communicate with each other and different animals. Gospel Duet Performance

JACKSONVILLE — Lewis & Lewis, Setting the Gospel to Music, will perform at First Assembly of God, 221 N. Kids Summer Art Workshops

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will offer Kids Summer Art Workshops all five days at the BAAC Gallery on Main. Kindergartners through second-graders will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and third- through sixth-graders will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. The cost is $50. Students will learn a variety of art techniques with instructor Leia Parks, and their work will be exhibited at the gallery Aug. 2-20, with a gallery reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Crime Watch Meeting

Fulton County Fair Horse Show

SALEM — The Shaver Plumbing and Hardware Fulton County Fair Horse Show will take place at 6 p.m. in the Clayton-Plumlee-Walling Arena at the fairgrounds. The show will feature halter classes, showmanship at halter, western pleasure, lead-line class for youth ages 5 and younger, trail classes, barrel racing and pole bending. The horse show is open to anyone; however, out-of-county participants must pay an entry fee. All horse entries need to be registered by Friday and can be done online at www.fultoncountyfair.org. Fulton County Fair Rodeo

SALEM — Hall Rodeo LLC will produce two nights of rodeo action at the Fulton County Fair at 8 both days. Cline Hall is the Arkansas Cowboys Association Top Rodeo Producer and will have a fast-paced show for rodeo fans. There will be a calf scramble and muttin busting for kids. A Day of Caring

SEARCY — Unity Health will offer the 20th annual A Day of Caring from 9 a.m. to noon at Harding Academy High School, 1529 E. Park Ave. Free medical, dental and eye screenings will be provided, as well as haircuts, immunizations and Pap tests. Items such as school supplies, groceries, Bibles, children’s socks and shoes, underwear, diapers and personal-care products will be distributed, and social-service information will be provided. Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches Barn-Raising Campaign

BATESVILLE — One aspect that makes the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches’ program unique in Arkansas is the fact that it is a real working ranch. The boys and girls who call the ranches’ campus in Batesville “home” are helping raise a registered Hereford beef herd. The ranches’ cattle program has an urgent need of a new hay barn. Discount Carnival Armband Tickets

SALEM — The Fulton County Fair will have a new carnival this year, Johnson Brothers Amusements of El Dorado. Advance armband tickets for the carnival rides, at $15 each, are on sale through noon Wednesday and can be used at the fair from 6-10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at Shaver Plumbing and Hardware; FNBC Community Bank in Salem and Mammoth Spring; the Bank of Salem in Salem, Mammoth Spring and Viola; the North Arkansas Electric Cooperative; Hill’s Auto Sales; and the Fulton County Fair Office at the fairgrounds. Armbands purchased at the fair will cost $20.

Magnificat Luncheon

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Tickets are available for the next Magnificat Luncheon, sponsored by the Mary Ark of the Covenant Chapter of Magnificat International, set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6 in the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Hall. The speaker will be Gail Herbert of Springfield, Missouri. Herbert is a wife and the mother of two boys, and works as a case manager at Rare Breed, a housing program for homeless youth. Ozarka College-Ash Flat EMT Program

ASH FLAT — Ozarka College in Ash Flat will begin offering courses for its Emergency Medical Technician Program in the fall semester. Classes will meet from 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Aug. 16. Additional clinical hours will be required. Cabot Lions Club Meetings

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Kingpin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Club members provide children with eyeglasses, offer food for seniors and are among the first to respond when disaster strikes. All are invited to attend the meetings.

Book Arts and Printmaking

Cheeseburger in Paradise Fundraiser

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Fairfield Bay Community Education Center’s annual benefit dance, Cheeseburger in Paradise, will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Fairfield Bay Conference Center. Tickets are $20 in advance at the Education Center or the Conference Center, or from committee members, or $25 at the door; 50/50 raffle tickets are $5 each. Golf Tournament

HEBER SPRINGS — The Rotary Club of Heber Springs will host its annual Scholarship Four-Person-Scramble Golf Tournament on Sept. 9 at the Red Apple Inn and Country Club. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by play at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. There will be prizes for closest to the hole on all par 3s. Funds raised will be used to provide scholarships to 2017 graduating seniors. The Rotary Club provided $17,000 to last year’s graduates and has committed to give $14,000 this year.
