TACOS AND TIANGUIS

El Zocalo garden party features tacos, trinkets

Bernice Gardens in SoMa was the backdrop for the festive Tacos and Tianguis on July 16. The event was a fundraiser for El Zocalo Immigrant Resource Center, whose mission is to promote dignified life for immigrants in Arkansas.

The tianguis, an open air market, allowed local immigrant artisans to show off a variety of wares including colorful jewelry, hair bows and bags. Attendees could also buy chicken, beef or vegan taco plates accompanied with rice, beans and salsa. A variety of desserts was also for sale.

El Zocalo connects families with needed services and resources and hosts a food and clothing pantry in partnership with Interfaith Arkansas. In addition, the center offers weekly classes and monthly workshops such as English as a second language (in partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System) and life skills classes.
