BINGO BASH

How do you spell fun?

Bingo Bash players take chances and win as storms subside

Storms and tornado warnings made for a slow start for the 10th annual Bingo Bash on July 14 at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church.

Those who braved the rain and got there in time for dinner enjoyed a buffet of fried catfish, shrimp and chicken with all the fixings. By the time the games started, however, the weather had quieted and the hall had filled with bingo players.

To add to the fun, variations on bingo were added, including stand-up bingo, where players started the game standing and then sat when a number on their card is called. The last person standing won.

Winners received a variety of prizes including tickets to see Arkansas Travelers or Razorbacks games, dinners and prize packages with items from local businesses. Organizers held a raffle for a night out with 40 friends on the Toddy Trolley, won by Jeff Voyles; a stay at a condo in Medellin, Colombia, won by Angie and Jordan Johnson; and box seats for a day during the 2017 racing season at Oaklawn, won by Cindy Crone.

The fundraiser for Access, hosted by the young professionals group Access in Action, raised more than $30,000. The money will go toward the tuition assistance fund for the organization which offers evaluation services, education, therapy and training for individuals with disabilities. Jamie and Eric Bell were event co-chairmen.
