Overnight lane closings planned along I-49

SPRINGDALE -- Drivers should expect overnight lane closings related to work on Interstate 49 at three different locations this week, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Crews will place asphalt on the new median lane and mill and place asphalt on existing lanes at the Elm Springs Road interchange, exit 73, and at Spring Creek Bridge beginning tonight.

The lane closures will end Friday morning, weather permitting. The inside lanes will alternately be closed north and south. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

• North I-49 lane closings will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

• South I-49 lane closings will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Continuing tonight, crews will remove temporary concrete barriers, mill existing pavement and resurface with new asphalt on the north and south lanes between the Clear Creek bridges south of Johnson Mill Boulevard, exit 69, and the north side of the Johnson Mill Boulevard interchange. The inside and outside lanes of I-49 will alternately be closed.

Overnight lane closings will will end Friday morning, weather permitting.

• North I-49 lane closings will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

• South I-49 lane closings will occur between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Other construction work on I-49 will require overnight lane closings on Johnson Mill Boulevard, according to highway department officials.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Monday, crews will paint structural steel girders at the I-49 overpass on Johnson Mill Boulevard, exit 69. East and west lanes on Johnson Mill Boulevard between the I-49 ramps will alternately be closed to allow for construction. Single-lane traffic will be maintained in each direction during the work. Main lane traffic on I-49 will not be affected.

Overnight lane closures will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Monday and end Saturday morning, weather permitting.
