"I like all sports," Gosvenor said. "A lot of my buddies played, so I played with them. And I stuck with them."

Gosvenor competed just as hard in the classroom. He was the salutatorian of his graduating class and plans on earning a mathematics degree from Arkansas Tech.

"Geometry was my favorite, but I know I'll be teaching everything associated with math," Gosvenor said. "Math has always been my best subject."

Gosvenor also has designs on becoming a basketball coach and he has received a solid endorsement from his high school coach, Jim Stafford.

Stafford wrote in his recommendation letter of Gosvenor that "after 49 years of coaching, River would rank as one of my top all-time players."

"I have learned so much from Coach Stafford and my other coaches," Gosvenor said. "Because of them, I want to contribute to the next generation."

Gosvenor said he is most proud of helping his basketball team recover from a 9-15 record during his sophomore season.

"We went from being a team that didn't make the playoffs to a team that went 30-5 and ranked in the top five the next year," Gosvenor said. "We had a great season."

Gosvenor said basketball was "by far" his favorite sport.

"I put in so many hours working on my game," Gosvenor said. "I wanted to work harder than my opponents."
