Arkansas woman killed, 5 people hurt in head-on collision

A head-on collision killed a Huntsville woman and inured five other people, including three minors, Sunday afternoon in Carroll County near Dry Fork.

Misty Phillips, 38, was driving east on U.S. 412 at 4:51 p.m., Arkansas State Police said. Her 1998 Ford crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the front left side of a westbound Nissan, police said.

Phillips died in the crash, and five people in the Nissan were injured. Brent Culp, 28, and Erica Culp, 27, both of Fayetteville were hurt, along with three minors.

Two of the youths, from Springdale and Huntsville, are boys, while the girl is from Farmington, the report said. Arkansas law prohibits the release of the minors' names in crash reports.

Those injured were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., and Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

Police described conditions as wet and hot at the time of the wreck.

Phillips' death was the 287th of the year on Arkansas roads, according to preliminary figures.
