Veronica Hodges was charged Monday with first-degree murder in Osceola District Court, said Capt. Scott Adams of the Blytheville Police Department. Hodges is being held in the Mississippi County jail in Luxora in lieu of a $250,000 bond set by District Judge Donald Betterton.

Adams said police responded to a call at 3411 Arkansas 239 Spur at 1:10 a.m. Friday and found Victor Beaugard, 55, lying face down in a driveway with several stab wounds in the face and chest.

Hodges first told police that Beaugard threatened to burn down her house and she stabbed him in self-defense, Adams said. Police later said Hodges made contradictory statements and was arrested.

She will be arraigned in Mississippi County Circuit Court on Aug. 31.

It is the sixth homicide in Blytheville this year, Adams said.
