Doctor from Arkansas found dead in N.C. home was under investigation

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Search warrants and court documents show a North Carolina plastic surgeon was under investigation for embezzlement when he was found shot to death in his home.

Authorities say Frank Buddy McCutcheon's wife found the 64-year-old Buncombe County doctor dead on the couch in his Arden home July 16 with a gunshot wound to the head. The back door near his body was open.

The Citizen-Times of Asheville reported that court records show the state Department of Revenue asked for payroll records and income tax returns from the couple five days before McCutcheon's death.

The warrants cite a possible murder investigation, but no charges have been filed.

The warrants say a gun thought to be owned by the couple was found in ivy between McCutcheon's home and his neighbor's house.

McCutcheon was a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who worked in Arkansas until 1999, when he moved to North Carolina, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.
