Fayetteville club closes for renovation, security measures

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Electric Cowboy nightclub is closing for renovation, which might include more security because of recent shootings at nightclubs in Florida, a company representative said Monday.

The club, which is on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Interstate 49, closed Saturday and will open again in late August, said Mike Butler, corporate representative. The place is getting a "facelift," the new name Whiskey 101 and potentially new security measures, such as a metal detector and off-duty Fayetteville police officers or Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies, he said.

A lone gunman killed 49 people at the Orlando, Fla., club Pulse last month in the deadliest mass shooting by a single person in U.S. history. Another gunman killed two and injured several at a Fort Myers, Fla., club early Monday, according to The Associated Press.
