Woman assaulted by man impersonating officer, Arkansas officials say

Authorities in neighboring south Arkansas counties are advising residents to be on alert for a man who, while impersonating a law enforcement officer, recently assaulted a woman at gunpoint in Union County.

The assault occurred after a white man in a white unmarked Dodge Charger with blue and red dashboard lights pulled a woman over, according to a statement sent out this week by sheriff’s offices in Union and Columbia counties.

That car had a license plate on its front. Authorities said it was not known if the plate was state-issued or novelty.

The armed man is described as being white and in his 40s, with an average build and “clean-cut” appearance. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored ball cap, a dark shirt, dark pants and a badge, the sheriff’s office said.

“Please be aware that this alert is not to cause panic, but to cause awareness,” the statement reads in part.

Additional details regarding the assault were not immediately available Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Union County sheriff’s office at (870) 364-1970 or the Columbia County sheriff’s office at (870) 234-5331.
