Shortly before 1 a.m., police officers were flagged down by Kirel Young at 2215 S. Blake St., according to a news release. Young, 20, had been shot multiple times and had blood running down his face, police said.

Young told officers that his friend Michael Johnson, 20, also had been shot, the release said.

Another officer found Johnson less than a quarter-mile away in the back seat of a Dodge Charger at the corner of West 20th Avenue and Arlington Street, according to a separate police report. Johnson also had been shot multiple times, according to the report.

Young and Johnson told police that they were driving down Arlington Street when a man jumped into the car and tried to rob them, the news release said. The men fought over the gun, which resulted in Young and Johnson being shot, the release said.

At about the same time, a third officer located another man who had been shot. Jaylin Cobbs was at 1108 W. 24th Ave., a little more than 2 miles from Arlington Street, the report said.

Cobbs, 18, told police that someone drove up to him near Cherry Street Liquor, 2517 S. Cherry St., and fired three shots, hitting him once in the upper right leg, the report said.

Cobbs told police that he ran a block north to a house on 24th Avenue after being shot.

Police could not find any evidence at the crime scene described by Cobbs, the report said.

Cobbs was later arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree battery in the shootings of Young and Johnson, authorities said. The investigator said Cobbs might have shot himself, according to the report.

All three men were treated and released from Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Cobbs was booked into the Jefferson County jail.
