Arkansas State Police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run earlier this month that killed a toddler and injured his mother in Saline County.

Thomas Fuell, 21, of Prattsville was arrested and taken to the Saline County jail Tuesday morning, according to a news release. He was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that the accident occurred July 10 on Arkansas 190 south of Benton at 3:30 a.m. After the accident, state police told the newspaper that the wreck had occurred when a pickup veered off the road near a curve.

The mother was pulling her child behind her in a wagon, and police said Fuell lost control of his vehicle and hit the wagon. The 2-year-old was pronounced dead at Saline Memorial Hospital.

Bill Sadler, a state police spokesman, declined to provide additional information, citing the ongoing investigation.

"We're not going to get into the specifics of what led to the arrest," he said.
