— Arkansas received a verbal commitment Tuesday from a catcher in Little Rock.

Cason Tollett, a rising sophomore, at Little Rock Christian, chose the Razorbacks over an offer from Arkansas State. He was also being recruited by Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

PrepBaseballReport.com rates Tollett as the third-best player in the state in his class.

"It's just cool to know that you're going to play for the school that you've been rooting for your whole life," Tollett said.

Tollett (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) said he attended three games at Baum Stadium last season and was recruited by the Razorbacks for about six months.

"When I went up there, I just knew that was where I wanted to go," Tollett said.

As a freshman, Tollett batted .325 with 18 RBI. He also had a .972 fielding percentage in 42 innings for the Warriors, which made the state tournament.

"I thought I had a good year," said Tollett, who throws and bats from the right side. "We had a good high school team. I batted (clean-up) and thought I was productive in that spot. I caught well and thought it was a pretty solid year."

Tollett said he has played travel baseball with two other Arkansas commits - 2018 left-hander Evan Hiatt of Little Rock Catholic and 2019 right-hander Blake Adams of Springdale Har-Ber.

"Those are two of my best friends," Tollett said. "I have played with the two of them since I was 12."

Tollett is the fifth commitment in the class of 2019, according to a database at HogNation.net. He is the third catcher to commit in the class.

Verbal commitments are non-binding.
