Fatal hit-and-run suspect, 21, jailed

State police Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man accused of a hit-and-run south of Benton that killed a 2-year-old boy and injured the boy's mother.

Thomas Fuell of Prattsville was arrested at his home Tuesday morning and was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an injury crash, police said. Special agents from the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division made the arrest and took Fuell to the Saline County jail, according to a news release from the state police.

Troopers were called to a crash scene along Arkansas 190, south of Benton, about 3:30 a.m. July 10, according to the release.

Police reported that a woman was pulling her 2-year-old son in a wagon near a curve when a pickup driver lost control and hit the wagon.

According to the release, Fuell is accused of striking the wagon and then leaving the crash scene. The 2-year-old, who was inside the wagon, was later pronounced dead at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, according to the release.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said there is an ongoing investigation into the crash. He declined to give information on what led to Fuell's arrest.
