North Little Rock man accused of beating woman

A North Little Rock man is accused of hitting his girlfriend's friend in the head with a piece of wood after he got upset over an argument about a vehicle, according to a report.

Tony Smith, 40, was arrested at 2305 Schaer St. at 8:40 p.m. Monday after the victim told police he hit her in the head with a board and choked her with both hands until she was almost unconscious.

The victim told police Smith also hit her in the face with a closed fist and then pushed her head into a door. Police said the victim had blood on her bottom lip and complained of pain to her head, but refused medical treatment.

Smith told police he had a verbal altercation with the woman, but did not hit her.

Police charged Smith with one count of aggravated assault, according to the report.

He was listed on Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Tuesday night.
